Hotel SANTAKOS was the first hotel in Lithuania to become a member of BEST WESTERN INTERNATIONAL Hotel chain. It is located at the merging point of Old Town and the City Center of Kaunas, in the quiet J.Gruodzio street. Built in 1895 as a wine cellar with ascetic exterior, 100 years later, in 1995, the building was transformed into a cozy hotel with elegant exterior; later it was one of the first to become a prestigious visiting card of the city.

The history of the hotel goes back to XIX century. The building of the hotel Metropolis testifies about the glorious times. The building contained a hotel and a restaurant back in the year 1899. This building was designed by a great province engineer Nikolajus Andrejavas. There was a hotel with 27 rooms on the second floor. The hotel Metropolis and its restaurant with italian orchestra got the best evaluation from the customers and were considered the best place in the town.
