Established in 1921, opened 1925 in the temporary M.K.Čiurlionis Gallery; in 1936 it was converted into Vytautas the Great Museum of Culture and was transferred to the new
premises; in 1944 it was again named after M.K.Čiurlionis. In 1969 the gallery of works by
M.K.Čiurlionis was opened in the extension. Exhibitions: works of the most prominent Lithuanian artist and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas
Čiurlionis (1875-1911), Lithuanian Art (15th-19th c.),
Lithuanian Art (1st half of 20th c.), Lithuanian Folk Art.

Works by M.K.Čiurlionis
M.K.Čiurlionis (1875-1911) is the most eminent Lithuanian artist,
composer, public figure whose innovative works surpassed his time and crossed the boundaries of his
country. The largest part of the great artist's works is exhibited in the
Gallery. The Music Room offers an opportunity to listen to the recordings of
M.K.Čiurlionis music and live piano concerts.

furniture, glass, candlesticks, objects of fine arts - the portrait gallery of aristocracy and clergy present vivid tendencies in art in the times of glory and fall of the Great Duchy of

c.
The exhibition presents the most important collection of early 20th c. Lithuanian
painting, graphic art, sculpture and a collection of works by representatives of the Kaunas Art
School, 4th decade art groups
'Ars' and 'The Independents'.

Lithuanian Folk Art
Lithuanian folk culture is disclosed by works of self-tought folk artists-craftsmen from various regions of
Lithuania. Alongside the priceless crosses by V.Svirskis and iron crosses-heads many splendid specimens of folk
sculpture,
18th-19th c. paintings and etc.
