The museum houses the richest collection of the cultural monuments of the Ancient Egypt in Lithuania
(appr. 300 pieces). The visitor will be captured by colourful painted mummy masks and
sarcophagi, mummies, a unique papyrus containing a fragment from 'The Book of the
Dead', ushabti, statuettes, jewellery, various amulets. The collection of Antique ceramics impresses with variety of
forms, artistic black figure and red figure decor. In two-eared Amphoras it was used to keep and transport wine and oil to
far-away colonies. Small Amphoras - Pelikes - were used in everyday life. Wine was poured by means of special jugs - Oinochoe into
Lip-cups, Kantharos, Skyphos. Lekythois were used for keeping oil, also for the
ritual. The exhibition also contains the largest collection of glassware of ancient Rome in
Lithuania. The most popular shape of Roman glassware - high narrow-necked vessels for
oil, balsams, perfumes are shown in this display. |
