L.Truikys' sitting room

The hosts of this place were notable among Inter-war Kaunas intellectuals for their unusual thinking and style of life. Liudas Truikys (1904-1987), one of the most prominent opera stage-designers, collector of the Oriental art. His works could be a unique example of synthesis in art where ideas of Egyptian and Japanese art can be clearly traced. The exhibition is composed of stage designs, an excellent collection of 18th-19th c. Oriental carpets, a valuable collection of books, Chinese silk rolls, Buddhist sculptures, enamels, porcelain, Lithuanian folk sculptures. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to Marijona Rakauskaitė (1892-1972), a famous opera singer, devoted companion to L.Truikys. The museum possesses family photographs, pictures of theatre characters. Theatrical costumes and jewellery are also presented to the public. The place still keeps its enigmatic and cosy atmosphere, the odour of incenses can be scented which gives a special flavour to the music performances and various events that are organized here.
