|
Displayed on the grounds of veteran vessels are the biggest
exhibits of the Lithuanian Sea Museum. The weight of the medium-size
fishing trawler Dubingiai is about 330 t. The ship was built at Klaipeda
Shipyard Baltija for trawl and purse seine fishing in the Atlantic Ocean.
The trawler was lifted ashore by the floating crane Stanislav Judin in
1986. |
Exhibitions are held in a hall equipped in the holds
of this vessel , while during the summer season a permanent exposition of
18th-19th-century engravings is displayed there. Two veteran ships have
been handed over to the Museum by Neringa Fishing Farm. A motor-boat (dore)
built in 1949 represents the type of vessels which replaced the old
traditional sailing boat kurenas of the Curonian Lagoon fishermen. The
small fishing trawler Kolyma built in Finland in the same year was in
service to Klaipeda fishermen in the Baltic Sea for nearly 30 years. In
1954 a steel trawl-boat (PTB-7167) was brought from Germany. Vessels of
this type were used by fishermen of Klaipeda Fishing Collective Farm
Baltija for fishing with nets in the Baltic Sea. In 1989 Klaipeda
Restoration Workshop restored a kurenas, a traditional sailing boat of the
Curonian Lagoon fishermen, for the Lithuanian Sea Museum. It is the only
authentic seaworthy ship of this type. In 1990 a three-week voyage on the
old kurenas was made around the Curonian Lagoon. The boat is launched into
water every spring . She sails in the Curonian Lagoon every summer and
takes part in town festivals. |
